Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Norditropin FlexPro pen is a prefilled, disposable, multidose injection pen device developed by Novo Nordisk that delivers somatropin, a recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) biologic. Somatropin is structurally identical to endogenous human growth hormone and acts as an agonist at the growth hormone receptor (GHR), stimulating intracellular signaling pathways that promote the synthesis and release of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). This cascade drives systemic tissue growth, skeletal development, and metabolic regulation. Administered via daily subcutaneous injection, the Norditropin FlexPro pen is approved in the US and EU for pediatric and adult growth hormone deficiency (GHD), short stature associated with Noonan syndrome, Turner syndrome, and children born small for gestational age (SGA) who fail to manifest catch-up growth. It is also approved for idiopathic short stature (ISS) and growth failure due to Prader-Willi syndrome in the US, and growth retardation due to chronic renal insufficiency in the EU. The FlexPro pen was approved by the FDA in March 2010 and offers a stable formulation that does not require refrigeration after its initial use.
