Overview
Obinutuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 antigen on B lymphocytes. It is used as a targeted immunotherapy for certain blood cancers, specifically chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and follicular lymphoma (FL). Obinutuzumab binds to the CD20 protein on malignant B cells, marking them for destruction by the immune system through mechanisms such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and direct cell death. The drug is administered intravenously, often in combination with chemotherapy agents like chlorambucil or bendamustine. Developed by Roche, it was first approved by the FDA in November 2013 under the brand name Gazyva[1][4][5][6].
