Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OraCAb is an orally administered polyclonal antibody therapeutic developed by MicroPharm Limited in collaboration with the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for the treatment of *Clostridioides difficile* infection (CDI). The drug consists of ovine-derived (sheep) polyclonal antibodies that specifically target and neutralize *C. difficile* Toxin A (TcdA) and Toxin B (TcdB) within the gastrointestinal tract. It features a specialized formulation designed to protect the antibodies from gastric and intestinal degradation, ensuring they remain active at the site of toxin production. Unlike traditional antibiotics, OraCAb treats mild to moderate CDI by neutralizing the pathogenic toxins directly without disrupting the commensal gut microbiota, which may help prevent infection recurrence and preserve colonic health.
