Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Paliperidone (CCPC) is an oral extended-release formulation of the atypical antipsychotic paliperidone, developed by the China Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company (CCPC) in Taiwan. As the primary active metabolite of risperidone, paliperidone functions as a central dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and a serotonin 5-HT2A receptor antagonist. It also exhibits antagonistic activity at alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors and H1 histaminergic receptors. This specific formulation is designed to provide a controlled release of the medication over a 24-hour period, reducing the peak-to-trough fluctuations associated with immediate-release antipsychotics. It is approved in Taiwan for the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
