Overview
Qushi Huayu Decoction (QHD) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula composed of five herbs in specific ratios: Artemisiae scopariae herba (Yinchen), Polygoni cuspinati rhizome et radix (Huzhang), Herba hyperici japonica (Tianjihuang), Curcumae longae rhizome (Jianghuang), and Gardeniae fructus (Zhizi)[6]. It has been clinically used for the prevention and treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)[1][2][3][4][5]. QHD exerts its effects through multiple mechanisms, including activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling, modulation of gut microbiota composition, regulation of lipid metabolism pathways such as SREBP-1 and ChREBP, inhibition of hepatic lipid accumulation, reduction in serum LDL cholesterol and liver enzymes, suppression of inflammatory mediators like tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and enhancement of fatty acid β-oxidation via JAK2/STAT3/CPT-1A pathway[1][2][4][5][8]. The formula contains active compounds such as emodin from Huzhang[6], along with various organic acids, iridoids, flavones, naphthols, anthraquinones[7].
