Recombinant gastric lipase is a biologic therapeutic developed by Ventria Bioscience for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). Produced using the proprietary ExpressTec platform, this recombinant protein is derived from genetically modified rice plants. It functions as an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) designed to mimic the activity of endogenous human gastric lipase, which is essential for the hydrolysis of dietary lipids. By facilitating lipid digestion in the gastrointestinal tract, it aims to alleviate malabsorption symptoms in patients who lack sufficient pancreatic enzymes. The development of this specific recombinant protein candidate has been discontinued.
