Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant human interferon-alpha2 variants is a pipeline program of engineered interferon-alpha2 proteins developed by Heligenics. Utilizing their proprietary GigaAssay™ high-content screening platform, Heligenics has generated and characterized libraries of over 350 and over 1,600 interferon-alpha2 variants with precision post-translational modifications and disulfide-bond engineering. These variants are designed to optimize therapeutic efficacy, reduce immunogenicity, and improve stability compared to standard interferon-alpha2 therapies (such as peginterferon alfa-2a). The program is being developed for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), squamous cell carcinoma, polycythemia vera, hepatitis D, and other viral infections. The mechanism of action involves binding to and activating the type I interferon-alpha receptor (IFNAR), triggering downstream JAK-STAT signaling to induce antiproliferative, immunomodulatory, and antiviral responses.
