Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rituximab + iodine I 131 tositumomab is a combination regimen used in the treatment of certain types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, particularly CD20-positive, relapsed or refractory, low-grade, follicular, or transformed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Rituximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody targeting the CD20 antigen on B lymphocytes and works by depleting both normal and malignant B cells. Iodine I 131 tositumomab (Bexxar) consists of a murine monoclonal antibody (tositumomab) directed against CD20 that is covalently linked to radioactive iodine (Iodine-131). This radioimmunotherapeutic agent delivers targeted radiation to B cells expressing CD20 through its radiolabeled component while also engaging immune-mediated cytotoxicity via the antibody. The combination is primarily indicated for patients whose disease has progressed during or after rituximab therapy[1][2][3][5].
