This combination therapy is an experimental regimen being evaluated for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It consists of rituximab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD20, administered in conjunction with a programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) or programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor and a targeted therapy (typically a multi-kinase inhibitor). While rituximab is primarily used for B-cell malignancies, this study explores its role in modulating the immune microenvironment to overcome resistance to standard-of-care checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies in patients who have failed first-line treatment. The Phase 2 clinical trial is sponsored by Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital to assess the efficacy and safety of this second-line or later therapy.
