Avicenna Biosciences is developing a series of small molecule Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitors designed using machine learning technology for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The program includes lead candidates such as AV-016, which is being developed for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and AVI-009, which is intended for Parkinson's disease-associated dyskinesia. These inhibitors are specifically engineered to be CNS-penetrant and target both ROCK1 and ROCK2, enzymes that play critical roles in neuronal survival, growth, and regeneration. In Parkinson's disease, AVI-009 is designed to be used in combination with levodopa to eliminate involuntary movement side effects (dyskinesia) while maintaining therapeutic efficacy. The company is also exploring these inhibitors for the treatment of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2A (CMT 2A).
