The rVSV-Nipah vaccine is a live-attenuated, recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV) vector-based vaccine designed for the prevention of Nipah virus infection. Developed by Public Health Vaccines (PHV) in collaboration with Crozet BioPharma and supported by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), the vaccine utilizes a replication-competent VSV platform. In this construct, the native glycoprotein (G) of the vesicular stomatitis virus is replaced with the glycoprotein (G) of the Nipah virus. This allows the vector to express the Nipah antigen upon administration, eliciting a robust immune response including neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity. The platform is similar to the one used for the licensed Ebola vaccine, Ervebo, and the Nipah candidate is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
