Overview

S247240 is a small molecule modulator of the Large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel (BK channel) currently under development by Servier and its subsidiary Symphogen. It is being investigated for the treatment of Fragile X syndrome, a genetic neurodevelopmental disorder caused by mutations in the FMR1 gene. In Fragile X syndrome, the loss of FMRP protein leads to the downregulation or dysfunction of BK channels, resulting in neuronal hyperexcitability and impaired synaptic plasticity. S247240 is designed to modulate BK channel activity to restore normal neuronal firing patterns and alleviate the behavioral and cognitive symptoms associated with the condition. The drug is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical development.
