Overview
Sanmiao Powder is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of three primary ingredients: *Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex* (Huang Bai), *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cang Zhu), and *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Niu Xi). It is an expansion of the Ermiao Powder formula, specifically designed to address 'damp-heat' syndromes in TCM theory. In modern clinical practice, it is primarily utilized for the treatment of gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory conditions of the lower limbs. The formula exerts its therapeutic effects through multi-target mechanisms, including the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and the potential regulation of uric acid metabolism. The Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine has conducted mechanistic studies using chinmedomics to identify the material basis and pharmacodynamic pathways of this formula in patients with damp-heat gouty arthritis.
