Overview
Shenling Baizhu San + Lu Dangshen (SLBZS-L) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation consisting of the classic Shenling Baizhu San formula prepared with Lu Dangshen (a geoherbal variety of Codonopsis pilosula) as the monarch drug [Sa1742]. It is developed for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) [Sa1742]. SLBZS-L contains a higher concentration of bioactive components compared to formulations prepared with ordinary Dangshen [Sa1742]. Its therapeutic mechanism involves targeting the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, reducing gut-brain inflammation (by lowering IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α levels), enhancing intestinal barrier integrity (by upregulating mucosal barrier proteins Claudin-1, Occludin, and ZO-1), and improving hippocampal neurotrophic function (by modulating BDNF) [Sa1742].
