Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenqi Yizhi Keli is a modern Chinese herbal formula based on traditional Chinese medicine principles. It is primarily used for the treatment of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. The formulation consists mainly of Panax ginseng (ginseng), Astragalus membranaceus (astragalus), and Scutellaria baicalensis (baical skullcap) among other herbs[7]. Clinical trials and animal studies have demonstrated its neuroprotective effects in models of Alzheimer's disease by improving learning and memory deficits, reducing hippocampal neuron damage, modulating synaptic transmission and signal transduction pathways[1][3][7]. Mechanistically, it inhibits astrocyte reactivity via downregulation of the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway[1][3], improves cerebral blood flow by inhibiting brain pericyte contractility through modulation of PDGFRβ signaling[2], regulates amino acid metabolism including glutamate/glutamine balance[1][3], and influences energy metabolism as well as stress response proteins in the hippocampus[7]. Additional network pharmacology analyses suggest involvement in lipid metabolism regulation, metal ion homeostasis, interleukin signaling pathways, neurotransmitter receptor-mediated pathways, and possibly gut microbiota modulation relevant to Alzheimer’s pathology[3].
