Overview

STAb-T cells (Secreted T-cell Engager Antibody T cells) are an adoptive cell therapy platform consisting of engineered T cells designed to secrete bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) antibodies. Unlike conventional CAR-T cells that rely on membrane-bound receptors, STAb-T cells act as local "bio-factories" within the tumor microenvironment, delivering T-cell redirecting activity. This approach aims to overcome antigen heterogeneity and restricted effector engagement in solid tumors like melanoma. The secreted antibodies can recruit and activate both the engineered cells and endogenous "bystander" T cells to kill tumor cells. Research from the University of Manchester has demonstrated their efficacy in melanoma models targeting MCAM (Melanoma Cell Adhesion Molecule).
