**SUM-101** is an investigational recombinant protein-subunit malaria vaccine developed by Sumaya Biotech. It contains full-length *Plasmodium falciparum* merozoite surface protein 1 derived from the 3D7 strain, formulated with the GLA-SE adjuvant, a synthetic glucopyranosyl lipid A oil-in-water emulsion that activates Toll-like receptor 4. The vaccine is designed to induce MSP1-specific humoral and cellular immunity, including functional antibodies against blood-stage merozoites, to help prevent *P. falciparum* malaria. In a randomized Phase Ib study in malaria-exposed Tanzanian adults, three intramuscular doses were well tolerated and induced robust MSP1-specific IgG and IgM responses; further pediatric and controlled human malaria infection studies are in clinical development.
