Drug intelligence / Profile preview
technetium-99m rituximab is a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody used as a diagnostic imaging agent. It consists of the chimeric anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab labeled with the gamma-emitting radionuclide technetium-99m (99mTc), often via a chelator such as HYNIC (hydrazinonicotinamide) or through direct reduction methods. The agent specifically targets the CD20 antigen, which is highly expressed on B lymphocytes in lymph nodes and certain tumor cells. It is primarily developed and evaluated for sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping and lymphoscintigraphy in patients with breast cancer, melanoma, and oral squamous cell carcinoma, offering high retention in the sentinel nodes and rapid clearance from the injection site.
