Overview
UI064 is an incrementally modified drug (IMD) being developed by Korea United Pharm as a fixed-dose combination (FDC) for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, particularly in patients with comorbid asthma. It consists of two small molecule active ingredients: bepotastine, a second-generation H1-antihistamine, and montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA). Bepotastine provides relief from immediate allergic symptoms like sneezing and itching by blocking histamine H1 receptors, while montelukast addresses both asthma and the late-phase inflammatory response of allergic rhinitis by antagonizing the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1). This combination aims to improve patient compliance and provide synergistic therapeutic effects for respiratory allergic conditions. As of late 2023, the drug has advanced to Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea.
