Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vacyless is an oral tablet brand of the antiviral prodrug valacyclovir hydrochloride, a guanine nucleoside analogue used primarily for the treatment of herpesvirus infections such as herpes zoster (shingles), genital herpes, and herpes labialis. After oral administration, valacyclovir is rapidly converted to acyclovir, which is selectively phosphorylated in herpesvirus-infected cells and inhibits viral DNA polymerase, leading to chain termination and suppression of viral DNA synthesis.[7][11] Vacyless is formulated in 500 mg and 1000 mg strengths (base-equivalent) and is used similarly to other valacyclovir products, including comparative studies versus Valtrex in patients with herpes zoster.[3][11]
