Vero cell-derived inactivated Japanese Encephalitis vaccine is a second-generation vaccine developed to prevent Japanese encephalitis (JE), a serious viral zoonotic disease prevalent in Southeast Asia. Unlike older mouse-brain-derived vaccines, this formulation utilizes Vero cell culture for virus propagation, which allows for higher purity and a reduced risk of allergic reactions or neurological side effects. The vaccine contains inactivated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) particles that stimulate the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies. This specific candidate, developed by Shandong Hengye Biotech in collaboration with the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has been evaluated in Phase III clinical trials specifically targeting healthy infants to ensure safety and immunogenicity in the most vulnerable populations.
