Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VS002 is a proprietary formulation of vardenafil, a potent and selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, being developed by Vigorous Solutions (a subsidiary of Drug Rediscovery Group) for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Vardenafil works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the smooth muscle cells of the pulmonary vasculature. By preventing cGMP degradation, VS002 promotes nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation, leading to a reduction in pulmonary arterial pressure and improved hemodynamics. This drug candidate represents a repurposing of vardenafil, which is traditionally used for erectile dysfunction, into the cardiovascular space to address the needs of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
