VTH144 is a preclinical-stage therapeutic candidate developed by Verra Therapeutics for post-heart attack recovery (myocardial infarction). It is an engineered ADAM10 prodomain-based inhibitor that functions as a modified native peptide, designed to selectively inhibit ADAM10, a metalloprotease that is upregulated in the heart muscle of human heart attack patients. VTH144 works by reducing neutrophil infiltration, IL-1β-driven inflammation, and scar formation, thereby preserving cardiac function and preventing the fibrosis that can lead to arrhythmias and heart failure following myocardial infarction. The drug is administered subcutaneously and represents a first-in-class approach to address the inflammatory and remodeling phases that occur in the critical 4-6 week period after a heart attack.
