WGc-006 is an investigational mRNA-based cancer vaccine designed to target multiple common KRAS mutations, including G12D, G12V, G12R, and G13D. Developed by WestGene Biopharma, a spin-off from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, the vaccine utilizes a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system to transport mRNA encoding specific KRAS neoantigens into the body. Upon administration, the mRNA is translated into mutant KRAS proteins, which are then processed and presented by antigen-presenting cells to stimulate a robust T-cell-mediated immune response against tumor cells harboring these specific mutations. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of advanced solid tumors, such as pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where KRAS mutations are prevalent. In 2023, it became the first KRAS-targeted mRNA vaccine to receive Investigational New Drug (IND) approval from the NMPA in China.
