Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xuebijing + carbapenem is a combination therapy consisting of Xuebijing, a traditional Chinese medicine injection, and a carbapenem-class antibiotic. Xuebijing is composed of extracts from five medicinal herbs and is approved in China for the treatment of sepsis. It exhibits antibacterial, antioxidative, and anti-endotoxin properties. Its mechanisms include inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α and IL-6), improvement in blood rheology, enhancement of vascular tone, reduction in vascular permeability, and repair of endothelial cell gaps[1][2]. Carbapenems are broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics that inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins; they are used to treat severe or high-risk bacterial infections including those caused by multidrug-resistant organisms[3]. The combination aims to leverage the immunomodulatory effects of Xuebijing with the potent antibacterial activity of carbapenems for synergistic efficacy against severe infections such as sepsis.
