Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Yi Shen Juan Bi (YSJB) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal compound formulation widely used in China for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), particularly in patients with kidney deficiency syndrome as defined by TCM. The formula consists of multiple herbal and animal-derived ingredients, including Fructus Xanthii, Herba Cistanchis, Radix angelica, Radix rehmanniae, Pheretima, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Rhizoma drynariae, Polygoni cuspidati, Caulis spatholobi, Bombyx batryticatus, Herba erodii and others[6][9]. YSJB has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects and the ability to prevent bone destruction in preclinical models of RA. Mechanistically, it modulates immune responses by regulating T cell phenotypes—specifically balancing Th17 cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs)—and inhibits osteoclast differentiation via pathways involving JAK2/STAT3 signaling and NFATc1 expression[1][3]. Clinical studies have reported that YSJB can reduce joint inflammation and bone resorption similarly to methotrexate in animal models[1], with ongoing systematic reviews evaluating its effectiveness and safety for RA patients[7][10]. The product is manufactured as a pill or tablet form.
