Zevalin + BEAM is a combination treatment regimen used primarily for patients with relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). It combines radioimmunotherapy (Zevalin) with high-dose chemotherapy (BEAM) followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). The BEAM component consists of: - Carmustine (BCNU): 300 mg/m² IV on day -6 - Etoposide: 200 mg/m² IV daily on days -5 to -2 - Cytarabine (Ara-C): 200 mg/m² IV twice daily on days -5 to -2 - Melphalan: 140 mg/m² IV on day -1 Zevalin (yttrium-90 ibritumomab tiuxetan) is added to this regimen, typically administered on day -14 before the BEAM chemotherapy begins. Zevalin combines immunotherapy (via the monoclonal antibody ibritumomab tiuxetan) with targeted radiotherapy (via the radioactive isotope yttrium-90). This combination delivers radiation specifically to B-cell lymphoma cells and neighboring cells. Clinical studies suggest that adding Zevalin to BEAM may improve outcomes in patients with refractory lymphoma compared to BEAM alone, with manageable toxicity profiles.
