Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zhijuzi refers to the seeds of the Japanese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis), used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In TCM, zhijuzi is believed to clear toxins accumulated from alcoholic drinks, relieve thirst and ease the mind, stop vomiting, alleviate dysuria (painful urination), and relieve constipation. It is commonly prescribed for symptoms such as vomiting, constipation, hangover, dizziness, fever, excessive thirst, and restlessness. Modern research indicates that extracts from Hovenia dulcis may accelerate detoxification of ethanol and possess hepatoprotective (liver-protecting), antioxidative, antimicrobial, and antidiabetic properties[1]. The seeds are typically collected and dried before use.
