Overview

Cytokine regulatory pathways encompass the complex intracellular and extracellular signaling networks that coordinate the immune system's response to stimuli. These pathways, including the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathways, are responsible for translating cytokine-receptor binding into changes in gene expression (Source: NIH/NCBI). Mechanism of action

Therapeutic agents modulate these pathways by either neutralizing the cytokine ligands themselves, blocking their cognate cell-surface receptors, or inhibiting intracellular signaling components such as Janus kinases (JAKs) to prevent the activation of downstream transcription factors.
