Overview

Immune cytokine signaling is a fundamental biological process involving the production and reception of small proteins called cytokines that coordinate the immune system's response to infection, injury, and inflammation (Source: NIH). These molecules, which include interleukins, interferons, and tumor necrosis factors, bind to specific high-affinity receptors on target cells to trigger intracellular signaling cascades, most notably the Janus kinase-Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway (Source: StatPearls).
