Overview

Consequently, this field focuses on achieving a precise balance between dampening harmful inflammation and preserving the patient's ability to respond to pathogens.

Mechanism of action

Therapeutic modulation involves the neutralization of pro-inflammatory cytokines using monoclonal antibodies, the blockade of cytokine receptors to prevent signal initiation, or the inhibition of intracellular signaling enzymes such as Janus kinases (JAKs) to prevent downstream gene transcription [PMID: 31041429].
