Interleukin 13 Receptor Alpha 1 (IL13RA1) is a subunit of the interleukin-13 receptor complex. It plays a key role in mediating immune responses, particularly those involving the cytokines interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13). It forms functional heterodimeric receptors with the interleukin-4 receptor alpha chain (IL-4Rα). This complex can bind both IL-4 and IL-13, triggering downstream signaling pathways, notably the JAK/STAT pathway. IL-13RA1 is expressed ubiquitously across tissues and is implicated in diseases such as asthma, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.
Monoclonal antibodies (e.g., Dupilumab) block IL-4 and IL-13 signaling by targeting shared receptor subunits.
