Macrophage polarization and inflammatory cytokine signaling describes the dynamic process by which macrophages transition between functional states, primarily the pro-inflammatory M1 and the anti-inflammatory or pro-resolving M2 phenotypes (Nature Reviews Immunology, 2008). Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing treatments for conditions ranging from autoimmune disorders to solid tumors, where tumor-associated macrophages often promote progression (Nature, 2019).
