Overview

This entry represents a composite list of distinct inflammatory mediators rather than a single therapeutic target. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) are key pro-inflammatory cytokines that orchestrate systemic immune responses and are implicated in various autoimmune disorders (UniProt: P01375, P01579). Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) is a chemokine that drives the recruitment of inflammatory cells to tissues (UniProt: P13500). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of enzymes responsible for degrading extracellular matrix components, facilitating tissue remodeling and pathological processes like tumor invasion (StatPearls: Matrix Metalloproteinases). While each of these molecules is a significant therapeutic target in its own right, they are structurally and functionally diverse, ranging from signaling proteins to proteolytic enzymes. Drugs targeting these mediators include monoclonal antibodies for TNF and IFN-γ, and small molecule inhibitors for MMPs.
