Overview

This is a multi-agent chemotherapy and supportive care regimen composed of five drugs: - **Adriamycin (doxorubicin):** An anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals, leading to cytotoxicity in rapidly dividing cells. - **Cisplatin:** A platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function. - **Cyclophosphamide:** An alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA strands, preventing cell division. - **Etoposide:** A topoisomerase II inhibitor causing double-strand breaks in DNA during the S and G2 phases of the cell cycle. - **Filgrastim:** A recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) used as supportive care to stimulate neutrophil production and reduce the risk or duration of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. This combination is used for aggressive treatment protocols in various cancers such as small-cell lung cancer, germ cell tumors, neuroblastoma, multiple myeloma (in some regimens), or other malignancies where intensive cytotoxic therapy is indicated. Filgrastim does not have direct antitumor activity but supports hematopoietic recovery after myelosuppressive chemotherapy[1][2][4][5][6].
