Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ALM008 is a proprietary formulation of asenapine, an atypical antipsychotic, being developed by Almatica Pharma for the treatment of bipolar disorder. Asenapine is a multi-acting receptor-targeted antagonist (MARTA) that exhibits high affinity for a wide range of receptors, including dopamine D2, serotonin 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C, 5-HT7, and histamine H1 receptors. ALM008 is designed as a new delivery format, likely an oral solution or liquid formulation, intended to provide an alternative to existing delivery methods such as the sublingual tablet (Saphris) and the transdermal patch (Secuado). By optimizing the delivery of asenapine, ALM008 aims to improve patient adherence and ease of administration in the management of bipolar I disorder. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical development, with pharmacokinetic studies comparing its profile to sublingual asenapine.
