Anti-GAL1 neutralizing mAb is a monoclonal antibody designed to bind and inhibit Galectin-1 (Gal-1), a carbohydrate-binding protein encoded by the LGALS1 gene that is frequently overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment. Gal-1 plays a pivotal role in tumor progression by promoting angiogenesis, inducing the apoptosis of effector T cells, and modulating the function of myeloid cells toward a pro-tumorigenic and immunosuppressive phenotype. By neutralizing Gal-1, this antibody aims to restore anti-tumor immunity and inhibit vascular remodeling. Research led by Gabriel Rabinovich and colleagues at IBYME-CONICET has demonstrated that blocking Gal-1-driven circuits can reprogram myeloid cell functions and enhance the efficacy of both immune checkpoint inhibitors and anti-angiogenic treatments in preclinical models of colorectal cancer and melanoma.
