Overview

Aspiro Therapeutics is developing a lead preclinical peptidomimetic designed to mimic the function of Club Cell Secretory Protein-16 (CC16), a naturally occurring protective protein in the respiratory system. This small molecule therapy is engineered to bind with high affinity to αVβ5 and αVβ6 integrin complexes on inflammatory and epithelial cells in the lungs. By replicating the anti-inflammatory and lung-protective properties of CC16, the drug aims to restore lung function and prevent disease progression in obstructive lung diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and potentially cystic fibrosis. The therapy is intended for inhaled administration and is currently in preclinical development, with an IND filing anticipated in 2026.
