Overview

This product is a synbiotic combination of the probiotic bacterium Bifidobacterium longum and the prebiotic Synergy 1. Bifidobacterium longum is a beneficial gut microbe known for its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and gut barrier-supporting effects. Synergy 1 is a proprietary blend of inulin and oligofructose (fructooligosaccharides), which serves as a preferential growth substrate for B. longum, enhancing its colonization and activity in the gastrointestinal tract. The mechanism of action involves modulation of the intestinal microbiota composition, reduction of proinflammatory cytokines (such as tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-1 alpha), downregulation of human beta defensins associated with active inflammation, improvement in epithelial regeneration, and restoration of mucosal immune balance. This combination has been studied primarily for use in patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC), where it demonstrated clinical improvement by reducing inflammation markers and promoting mucosal healing[1][2][4].
