The primary active constituent of Cortex Phellodendri, berberine, along with other compounds like jatrorrhizine, palmatine, obacunone, and obaculactone, contribute to its diverse pharmacological effects. These include anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. It is traditionally used to clear heat, dry dampness, drain fire, eliminate steam, resolve toxins, and treat sores.
