Overview
This is a combination immunization regimen consisting of three separate vaccines:
- Comvax is a bivalent vaccine containing Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide conjugated to Neisseria meningitidis outer membrane protein complex (OMPC), combined with hepatitis B surface antigen produced by recombinant yeast cultures. It provides protection against invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b and hepatitis B virus.
- Infanrix is a noninfectious, sterile combination vaccine containing diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxin [PT], filamentous hemagglutinin [FHA], pertactin). It induces immunity against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
- Inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine contains purified inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 to induce immunity against polio infection.
The mechanism of action for all components involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies specific to each pathogen or toxin component included.
