Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of cyclophosphamide, fish oil (rich in omega-3 fatty acids), and prednisone. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent used as an immunosuppressant and chemotherapeutic, primarily for autoimmune diseases and certain cancers. Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. Fish oil, containing omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), has anti-inflammatory effects. This combination has been studied particularly in the treatment of proliferative lupus nephritis, where fish oil serves as an adjunct to enhance the efficacy of low-dose cyclophosphamide plus prednisone regimens by improving renal outcomes and reducing infection rates[1][2][4].
