Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cypher Select is a sirolimus-eluting coronary stent developed by Cordis Corporation, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. It represents a third-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) technology used in interventional cardiology to treat coronary artery disease and prevent restenosis. The device consists of a stainless steel stent platform coated with a durable polymer that provides controlled, sustained release of sirolimus (also known as rapamycin). Sirolimus functions as an antiproliferative agent by inhibiting the mTOR pathway, which prevents the migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells and T-lymphocytes that lead to neointimal hyperplasia. The Cypher Select Plus variant offers improved deliverability and flexibility through modifications to the stent architecture while maintaining the same drug-polymer coating and elution profile.
