Overview
Econazole + triamcinolone is a topical combination drug consisting of two active ingredients:
Econazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, leading to increased membrane permeability and cell death. It has broad-spectrum activity against dermatophytes (such as Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton floccosum), yeasts (including Candida albicans), and some gram-positive bacteria.
Triamcinolone (usually as the acetonide ester) is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and anti-allergic properties. It works by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and suppressing both early and late phases of inflammation.
This combination cream is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory dermatomycoses with or without secondary bacterial infection. Common indications include eczematous mycoses, tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), psoriasis with superimposed fungal infection, intertrigo, diaper dermatitis complicated by fungi or bacteria sensitive to these agents.
