Overview

Erylik is a topical combination gel developed by Laboratoires Bailleul for the treatment of moderate acne. It contains erythromycin (4%), a macrolide antibiotic, and tretinoin (0.025%), a retinoid. Erythromycin exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. Tretinoin acts on retinoic acid receptors (RARs) to modulate keratinization and promote desquamation of the epidermis, which prevents the formation of comedones. The product was first authorized in France in 1997 and is recommended as a second-line treatment for localized inflammatory papulo-pustular acne. It is typically applied once daily in the evening.
