Gemcitabine + trichosanthin is an experimental combination therapy investigated for its potential to enhance antitumor effects in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog used as a first-line chemotherapeutic agent in various cancers, including NSCLC. Trichosanthin is a type 1 ribosome-inactivating protein derived from the root tuber of *Trichosanthes kirilowii*, traditionally used in Chinese medicine and known for its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and induce apoptosis. Preclinical studies have shown that trichosanthin can significantly enhance the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of gemcitabine by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, thereby increasing cancer cell sensitivity to chemotherapy and potentially overcoming drug resistance[1][2][3]. This combination has been studied primarily in vitro using NSCLC A549 cells.
