IFN-gamma MSC-EVs (also written as IFN-γ MSC-EVs) are a research-stage, cell-free biologic modality consisting of extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) that have been pre-conditioned or primed with interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). This priming process alters the molecular cargo of the EVs—including microRNAs (such as miR-22-3p), proteins (such as HSP70), and lipids—to enhance their immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-repairing potential. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that these EVs can mitigate the progression of atopic dermatitis by suppressing Th2 receptor expression (specifically IL-4Rα and IL-13Rα1) and inhibiting inflammatory cell infiltration. Additionally, they are being investigated for their potential in treating fibrotic conditions, such as liver cirrhosis and systemic sclerosis, by modulating macrophage polarization and fibrotic signaling cascades via pathways like JAK/STAT.
