This is a combination of two drugs, interferon gamma-1b and adefovir dipivoxil. Interferon gamma-1b is a recombinant form of human interferon-gamma, used primarily to reduce the frequency and severity of serious infections in chronic granulomatous disease and to slow progression in severe malignant osteopetrosis. It acts as an immunomodulatory cytokine by binding to the type II interferon receptor (IFNGR1), activating JAK1/JAK2 kinases, leading to STAT1 phosphorylation and transcriptional activation of immune-related genes[6][4][7]. Adefovir dipivoxil is an oral nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor (ntRTI) indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. It is converted intracellularly into its active metabolite, which inhibits HBV DNA polymerase by competing with deoxyadenosine triphosphate and causing DNA chain termination[5][2]. The combination has been studied for potential synergistic antiviral effects in chronic hepatitis B infection[1].
