Overview

Lincomycin + triamcinolone is a combination drug consisting of the lincosamide antibiotic lincomycin and the synthetic corticosteroid triamcinolone. This combination is primarily used as an intralesional injection for dermatological conditions characterized by inflammation and/or infection, such as nodulocystic acne and hidradenitis suppurativa. Lincomycin acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, targeting susceptible Gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species. Triamcinolone exerts anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing multiple inflammatory cytokines through glucocorticoid receptor agonism. The combination leverages both antibacterial (lincomycin) and anti-inflammatory (triamcinolone) actions to reduce lesion size, pain, inflammation, and recurrence in severe or recalcitrant skin diseases. Clinical studies have shown that this combination is more effective than corticosteroid monotherapy for nodulocystic acne and improves quality of life in hidradinits suppurativa patients when administered via ultrasound-guided intralesional injection.
