PEGA-Arg4C44 (often referred to in literature as PEGA-Arg4C4) is a pan-affinitive telodendrimer nanotrap (TDNT) resin developed for the treatment of sepsis through the extracorporeal removal of inflammatory cytokines. It consists of a poly(ethylene glycol) acrylamide (PEGA) resin backbone functionalized with telodendrimers containing four arginine (Arg) residues and four cholic acid (C) residues. This specific chemical architecture enables the resin to capture a wide range of cytokines through a combination of electrostatic (charge-based) and hydrophobic interactions. By reducing the systemic cytokine burden, PEGA-Arg4C44 aims to modulate the dysregulated immune response and improve survival in sepsis patients. It has demonstrated efficacy in removing both positively and negatively charged cytokines from human sepsis plasma with high biocompatibility and lower non-specific protein adsorption compared to commercial hemoperfusion resins.
